St Davids Veterinary Group’s Internal Medicine Referral Service is headed by Carmela Burgess BSc (Hons) BVetMed (Hons) CertAVP(SAM) PgCert VPS MRCVS, Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine.
Carmela has been practising here since 2014 and has managed a large and varied medical case load of first opinion and referral patients.
Our Internal Medicine Referral Service welcomes all acute and chronic cases from across the South West, including those which would benefit from referral but where the financial implications of or travel to one of the larger referral centres would be prohibitive. Please feel free to call for advice or estimates.
We offer diagnosis and treatment of cases including:
- Oncology (including chemotherapy)
- Haematological conditions
- Respiratory disease
- Endocrine disease (including DKA)
- Urogenital disease
- Immune-mediated disease
- Infectious disease (including management of tetanus)
- Gastrointestinal disease
- Pain management (acute and chronic)
St David’s Veterinary Referrals operates out of St David’s Veterinary Hospital in Exeter, which is easily reached from the M5 and is next door to St David’s railway station. The hospital is staffed by a team of experienced vets and nurses, with a vet and RVN onsite 24/7. The internal medicine service is supported by Advanced Practitioners in small animal surgery (Daniel Skeldon BA VetMB CertSAS MRCVS and Joe Fox BVetMed CertSAS MRCVS) and by an experienced team of registered veterinary nurses.
We work to a high clinical standard, with excellent in-patient care for which we were awarded ‘outstanding’ in this field, as well as in client care, in the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme.
